A Season for Non-Violence |
LEADERS ARE READERS, Aurora Public Schools, Feb. 15th Downtown Aurora Visiual Arts presents - - - - - - - - - - E Pluribus Unum Prize The E Pluribus Unum Prize is a national awards program that provides prizes annually to exceptional initiatives that promote immigrant integration. In 2012, the program will award three $50,000 prizes and one Corporate Leadership Award. The awards recognize outstanding immigrant integration initiatives of all types, whether led by nonprofit or community organizations, businesses, public agencies, religious groups, or individuals. The awards program is coordinated by the Migration Policy Institute's National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy - a hub for those who seek to build their knowledge and skills in the area of immigrant integration. The J.M. Kaplan Fund is generously providing support for these awards to focus attention on successful integration initiatives and to inspire and provide program models to others around the US who might also undertake such efforts. If you are involved in an exceptional immigrant integration initiative, you are encouraged to apply for recognition. The application period for 2012 runs from January 2 - March 15, 2012. The awards will be announced in Fall 2012. "ConversAsian" -- a NEW newsletter of UCD's Asian Student Association YouthRoots -- a YouthBoard - - - - - - - - - - - Sesame Street is launching a national special, Growing Hope, focused on hunger in America. A new character named Lilly will be introduced at Altura Elementary School as a little girl whose family relies on food pantries. She and Elmo become fast friends. At Altura, 97% of students rely on free/reduced lunch programs. Sesame Street is providing 300+ “Sesame Street Kits” to send home with the students. These kits teach kids about nutrition and help them feel comfortable about using a food pantry or food assistance programs. This program is possible through the Food Bank of the Rockies. Aurora Public Schools (APS) Conference - Rainbow of Children, Sept. 17th APS Grand Opening Celebration APS Grand Opening Celebration APS Superintendent John L. Barry, the Board of Education and Early Childhood Education staff will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The celebration will include building tours, free food and a parent open house. This new preschool center will offer a solid educational foundation for more than 300 children ages 3-to-5 (a bond-funded project).
