MA
Literally translated as 'interval,' either spatial or temporal, ma is the negative space that brings meaning to the objects it lies between, or perhaps those objects give meaning to the—now positive—space they surround and define. The concept of ma is pervasive in Japan, especially in architecture, fine art, music, storytelling, drama and landscape design. A good spatial/physical example of Ma in action is the famed sand and stone garden at Ryôan-ji, a 15th century Zen temple in Kyoto (jpg below). Aural/temporal examples, and much more, may be found aplenty on Feb. 18, at Ma, ...entering the Space!
